Workshops Triangle

The GeoLeg Program offers outstanding geometry and measurement workshops. Through the hands-on experiences developed using GeoLegs, teachers learn how to lead their students in developing geometric concepts through a concrete approach. Learning is now a visual and spatial experience.

Integrated Approach

Through the GeoLeg Program, geometry becomes the vehicle through which other math strands are taught. The GeoLeg Program is not just a separate geometry program; it integrates other skills, especially algebraic thinking, into the lessons.

Concepts Developed in Workshops

All workshops are standards based. Spatial reasoning is developed through activities using the GeoLeg. Instructors will model activities that lead to classifying figures, understanding properties and relationships, incorporating geometric language into lessons, and applying geometry to the physical world.

angles   area
intersecting lines   perimeter
circles   construction
triangles   drawing
right triangles   coordinate geometry
Pythagorean theorem   linear and angle measurement
parallelograms   parallel lines and transversals
polygons   perpendicular lines
congruency   symmetry
similarity   transformations

Mastery of Geometric Concepts

Through the GeoLeg Program, a five step process has been developed that leads to mastery of geometric concepts through visual and spatial learning. We incorporate this process throughout the Workshops. This five-step method fully engages participants, both teachers and students, in the learning process. Learning becomes deeper and more lasting.

  1. Exploration - Build figures
  2. Observation - Observe measures and relationships
  3. Draw figures and record measurements
  4. Form conclusions about concepts
  5. Write expressions/equations that demonstrate relationships
Schedule

Workshops are designed around the needs of the individual school district. We offer single or multiple day workshops or summer programs. For more lasting learning and performance, we recommend follow-up workshops whenever possible.
